A Priest’s card

I was asked to make a card for a priest who served as spiritual director and whowas leaving. I was told that I could design the card according to whatever I had in mind. Great! ๐Ÿ˜€

So I took out my handy dandy elephant poo paper. But since it was cream in colour, and the envelope was also cream in colour, I decided to use my vintage brown stamp pad to add some colour to the elephant poo paper.

I like how it turned out. The vintage brown really brings out the texture of the elephant poo paper ๐Ÿ˜€

Since he is Catholic, I decided to add some Catholic details, like a cross at the back of the envelope, and a cut-out dove.

If you look carefully, the cross also serves as a closing mechanism. The lower vertical part is supposed to be tucked underneath the upper vertical part. It doesn’t really work that well as I didn’t leave enough space on the upper vertical part to allow secure tucking in, but I will refine the design in future cards to come.

Overall, I am quite pleased with it. Here are more pictures, which you can click to see a larger one:

‘Love lifts us up’ V-day card

A close-up of quilled heart-shaped hot air balloon:

โ€œAs selfishness and complaint pervert and cloud the mind, so love with its joy clears and sharpens the visionโ€ -Helen Keller

I’ve been quilling in between visits this Chinese New Year. Remember the quilled shapes I was playing around with? Halfway through, I thought that I could make a heart shape from two of the quilled shapes ๐Ÿ˜€

So I made a heart shape. But I didn’t want it to be JUST a heart shape stuck on a card. I like to have something going on in my cards. So I had a couple going up in a hot air heart-shaped balloon.ย As for clouds, I tore scraps of the elephant poo paper that I also used in my Baby Bundle from Heaven card. I like the soft wispy feel they have. Anyone crazy over furry stickers when you were young? The texture of these paper clouds beats furry stickers hands down.

This is not merely a great romantic date idea. The idea behind this is that love lifts us up from drudgery and meaninglessness. It brings you places you never think you would go and leads you to accomplish daily feats you never thought you could do. It gives a mother strength to balance household chores, taking care of the children and a job. It gives couples the will to stay together even when the going gets tough. Love is gravity-defying.

Baby bundle from heaven

This is my first baby card. I was inspired by the song I sang as a child, Rockabye-baby, and the idea that babies come from storks carrying bundles. So I had the little baby come down on a cloud, with the words ‘Heaven sent’ and complete with a postage stamp from God’s collection. God is Love, and from that we can infer that his postage stamp collection should have lots of hearts.

And babies are really from heaven, from the way they gurgle to their wide-eyed wonder to their peaceful sleeping…you can just tell. Which means we’re from heaven too, hi there fellow heavenly being ๐Ÿ™‚

The inside of the card is made from recycled Kraft paper.

Want to know a fun (I hope) fact?

The textured paper used to make basket and cloud you see on the front of the card is made from Elephant Poo paper which I bought from Vancouver. This video features the company and the process of making paper from Elephant Poo. I daresay, enjoy.
